Seattle U’s Verdoia nominated as Female Sports Star of Year

SEATTLE, WA— (GoSeattleU.com) Seattle University women’s soccer’s Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) has been chosen as a nominee for the Female Sports Star of the Year at the Seattle Sports Commission’s 2015 MTR Western Sports Star awards.

Verdoia was recently named the Senior CLASS Award winner for Division I women’s soccer, also named Capital One Academic All-America of the Year. She received First Team All-Region honors as well as Third Team All-American honors from NSCAA/Continental Tire. She finishes her Seattle U career as the all-time leader in goals and points, also setting the single season record with 22 goals in 2014.

In January 2014, Seattle University men’s and women’s soccer was nominated for Sports Story of the Year after each team made their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament in 2013.

Other nominees for Female Sports Star of the Year include SooBin Kim (UW women’s golf), Kim Little (Seattle Reign), Kelsey Plum (UW women’s basketball), Tia Presley (WSU women’s basketball), and Lianna Sybeldon (UW volleyball).

Winners are chosen by fan voting as well as the Sports Star Committee vote, which is comprised of local sports historians, media, and others active in the sports industry.

Voting is now live and fans can vote once per day per email address until Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at 5 p.m. PST at http://ssy.seattlesports.org/ssyvoting/. For more information on the event, visit http://www.sportsstaroftheyear.org.

The awards show will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Benaroya Hall with the pre-show reception to begin at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Benaroya Hall Box Office at http://www.seattlesymphony.org/symphony/buy/single/production.aspx?id=16777 for $25, which includes the awards show and post-show party (doors open at 6:45 pm) or $100, which also includes entrance to the pre-show reception.
