Tacoma Stars go unbeaten in WISL regular season

The Satellites celebrate a perfect 8-0-0 regular season in the WISL.

starsFacebookavatarBELLINGHAM, WA — The Tacoma Stars had a split squad up in Bellingham on Saturday night hoping to complete an unbeaten regular season in the WISL. The boys came through in a wild 9-7 win to earn a perfect 8-0-0 record before a wild, noisy crowd at the Bellingham Sportsplex.

New names stepped up for the Stars, including Ed Walumbe, who scored two goals. Byron Conforti also scored twice for Tacoma,as did Kyle Danielson. Both Ed and Byron scored in the first quarter that ended 3-2 in favor of Bellingham. It was 4-4 at the half as Kyle Danielson got one for the Stars and Walumbe notched his second in the second quarter.

10451695_10152619684583093_1301152236246695646_nThe tight match stayed that way all through the third quarter. The Stars tried to break it open with quick goals from Joey Gjerstsen and Danielson. The 6-4 advantage lasted until the end of the period when the Hammers struck back to tie it at 6-6 on goals from Brendan Quilici and Oscar Jimenez.

The match was tied at 7 with just over five minutes to go when Taylor Jackson came through with the winner for the Stars. Conforti completed his brace with just 15 seconds left to make the final 9-7 Stars.

Tacoma will host the Oly Town Artesians Saturday February 7 at 7:30 PM at the Tacoma Soccer Center in the WISL semifinals. The winner of that match advances to the league championship match on February 14. If the Stars advance, they would host the Final at the Tacoma Soccer Center.

Tickets to Saturday’s playoff match go on sale online on Monday, February 2.
