TUKWILA, WA—(club release) In the ongoing effort to help develop amateur players for their jump to the professional ranks, the Sounders U23 and Sounders Women teams have brought Thrive Sports on as a partner for the 2015 seasons. Thrive Sports excels in the mental skills training and preparation in athletes at the highest levels.

“We work daily to find opportunities and assets for the amateur athletes we work with each spring and summer,” explains Darren Sawatzky, GM Sounders U23/Sounders Women, “Derrek and his team at Thrive represent yet another incredible opportunity for education and mastery in sport for our players.”

Thrive Sports is owned and operated by Derrek Falor, a United States Soccer Federation National “A” license coach with a Masters Degree in Sports Psychology. Falor also has extensive collegiate coaching experience with Western Washington University, DePaul University, and Cleveland State University.

“As a former college soccer coach of 20 years and mental skills practitioner, I believe that soccer players achieve their optimal performance levels when they learn, and then effectively apply, key mental performance skills on a regular basis to their work on the field.  I help players demystify sport psychology theory so that they then understand how much they affect their own performance levels by the way they think and act.  It’s one thing to want to do well on the field.  It’s much more effective to understand how one will do well on the field based truly understanding on his or her strengths and always demonstrating mental toughness,” explains Falor, “The opportunity to work with the Sounders U-23 team as well as the Sounders Women team is an incredible one for me.  This organization is first class in everything it does and goes out of its way to provide a platform for success to all of their teams and staff.  I am incredibly happy to be a part of it and can’t wait to get started!   My goal is to help the players on both teams reach new levels of confidence and functional play this season.”

The Sounders U23 hold their tryouts on March 21st and 22nd ( and the Sounders Women host their tryouts on March 28th and 29th ( For information about Thrive Sports please visit the website at
