MARYSVILLE, WA— Seattle Stars FC and Fuerza FC have signed an affiliation agreement to exchange players and host Evergreen Premier League matches. The two soccer clubs are coming together at the adult level in an effort to give players more opportunities while at the same time testing the Snohomish County area as a possible long-term home for an Evergreen Premier League (EPLWA) club.
“We have entered into an affiliate agreement that will enable both organizations to provide competitive soccer for players of all ages in the communities they serve,” says Fuerza President Tony Carillo. “Seattle Stars FC will have a partner that can create a larger fan base, provide management support for their events, a larger player base to select players from and will enable them to create a youth competitive program in the areas they serve.” Carillo and Fuerza have watched the development of the Evergreen Premier League with great interest. “For FFC this is one of the final steps in its goal to provide the most competitive soccer from youth to adult for both male and female players. FFC is already a member of the Womens Premier Soccer League, so this affiliation gives the male player a path to the best men’s premier league in the region.”
The Stars will play their 2015 league home opener against Wenatchee FC on Saturday April 25 at Quil Ceda Stadium in Marysville. Kickoff time has yet to be determined. The match will be the first contest of the new EPLWA season. Other Stars matches could also be played this year in Marysville, though the club is keeping options open to returning for a match or two at Starfire Sports Complex, which they called home in 2014.
Speaking via a video interview, Seattle Stars FC Co-Founder Margarito Avila says the affiliation will provide around seven players from Fuerza a chance to compete in the EPLWA in 2015 with the Stars.
