TUKWILA, WA—(club release) As the PDL season nears, the Sounders U23 team added a few more pieces to the puzzle. Luis Esteves will return for his fourth season with the Sounders U23’s as Guillermo Delgado comes into the northwest with a proven record of scoring goals. Isidro Prado-Huerta rounds out the group as a familiar face after developing in the Sounders Academy for the past few years.
Esteves came to the Sounders U23 team in 2012 and led the team to the Northwest Division title, the Western Conference Championship, and the national semi-finals versus FC London. FC London won the game 3-2 before dispatching Carolina to win the 2012 PDL National Championship. Esteves plays college soccer at St. Johns after transferring from Mobile where he led his team to the NAIA national championship game.
“It is an honor to be back with the U23’s for my fourth and final year, “ says Esteves, “I am excited to improve my game, have a successful season, and then hopefully head into the professional level like my U23’s teammates have done.”
Guillermo Delgado finished the 2014 fall season at the University of Delaware as a Third Team All American and on the watch list for the Herman Trophy which is awarded to the top player in the NCAA. Delgado was a First Team All Mid-West Region player along with a First Team All Colonial Athletic Association selection scoring 12 goals. He finished the conference season as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year.
“Guillermo is a player that professional coaches have their eye on,” explained Darren Sawatzky, Sounders U23 Head Coach, “He scores goals in bunches and he has a lethal mentality that you need from a player in the box. We will look to help him develop his talent while he competes with us this summer.”
Isidro Prado-Huerta is a familiar face to the rave green. Prado-Huerta competed for the Sounders Academy then played college soccer at Highline Community College after being brought in by former Highline Head Coach and current Sounders U23 Assistant Coach, Jason Prenovost. Prenovost has since moved into the Athletic Director position at Tacoma Community College and maintains his coaching role with the Sounders U23 team.
“Isidro played local youth soccer and was always a very good player with a silky left foot. The Sounders Academy helped him see what the next level was about and winning a state championship with Thomas Jefferson only grew his talent, “says Prenovost, “This summer will be a good test for him and we will see how he does training and competing with some of the best in college soccer.”
The Sounders U23 team starts the pre-season on May 3 at 1pm with an exhibition against Seattle University at Championship Field. They will play again at the Bellingham Hammers on May 8and round out the pre-season against South Sound at Sunset Stadium in Sumner on May 17 at 2pm.
