Washington Timbers Football Club is moving forward with its new $1.8 million lit turf field project. Construction is scheduled to start immediately and is expected to be completed this summer.
The fields will be located at the home of Washington Timbers FC, Harmony Sports Complex. The new fields will be constructed with artificial turf and will take the place of the grass fields on the South end of the Complex. The fields are part of an overall effort by the Washington Timbers to improve its physical campus and the product it can deliver to the members of its Club.
Technical Director Brett Jacobs is thrilled. “Our vision is to provide a best in class soccer organization that excels in player development through excellent coaching, innovative programs, premium facilities, our development philosophy and providing a fun learning environment. It’s very difficult to achieve those aspirations without quality facilities and I could not be more excited about this development for our players and coaches. Quality facilities are conducive to working from a curriculum, developing a style of play, having fun and playing quality soccer.”
“In the Northwest, artificial lit playing fields are invaluable because they give our young athletes an opportunity to play year round. The few turf fields that we have in Southwest Washington are in constant demand and still, there are not enough to give every organization access. Being able to provide not only the players who play for Washington Timbers FC, but other young athletes in the community, a place to play year round is an essential part of our vision and our commitment to Southwest Washington” says Sean Janson, the Executive Director of the Washington Timbers. “But this is just a first step. We are going to continue to work to improve the grass surfaces at Harmony, we have to improve the parking lot, and we hope to build additional turf fields. Our Club is the largest youth soccer club in Southwest Washington and Portland and we feel a deep obligation to our players, the parents, and our community to work hard and be constantly improving. I am proud to be a part of those efforts.”
A construction celebration is scheduled for Friday May 1st, 2015 at Harmony Sports Complex at 6pm. We encourage all to attend.
