Flaws and Marbury to play for Sounders Women

(Club release) The Sounders Women have picked up aggressive forwards from the University of Illinois. Both Jannelle Flaws and Kara Marbury are leading scorers and will add to the startup of the new season.

As a Junior Flaws was named University of Illinois Dick Eddleman Female Athlete of the Year, Big Ten Forward of the year, and The Daily Illini Athlete of the Year. Flaws found the net in 15 of her 23 games accounting for 43 percent of Illinois’ goals. Following her senior season Flaws has a record of 40 goals in the past 43 games, tying the second-most goals in the NCAA since the beginning of the 2013 season and ranking 10th in the country in goals per game. By the end of her senior year she earned the title of repeated Big Ten Forward of the Year, NSCAA National Player of the Week, ESPNW National Player of the Week, Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week, CSM National Offensive Player of the Week, and MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

“Jannelle is a gifted footballer and proven goal scorer. She will also be a great leader both on and off the pitch,” stated Hubert Busby Jr, Sounders Women head coach.

Kara Marbury is also bringing her scoring prowess to the Sounders Women this summer. During her high school career, Marbury was named the Greater Spokane League conference MVP, honorable mention selection, two time Mead high school MVP, three-time WIAA Interscholastic Award winner, and was an Elite Player Development Program player.

“Kara is a Washington state product who has made tremendous strides in a short period of time,” included Busby, “Her versatility across our front line will be beneficial to our squad this summer.”

Both Flaws and Marbury will look to score goals for the rave green in 2015. Come check out the young players this summer!
