Sounders U23 host Puget Sound Gunners Friday night in Sumner

SUMNER, WA— (club release) The Sounders U23 host the Puget Sound Gunners in a PDL League match this Friday, June 5th at Sunset Stadium in Sumner. Game time is 7:30pm with Franklin Pierce Soccer Club as the presenting group for the game.

Puget Sound are led by Charles Pitts who leads the team in scoring with 3 goals in the young NW Division race. Kevin Cook is back for the Gunners to help solidify a well organized team along with new central defender, DeClan McGivern. Shane Haworth, starting goalkeeper for Seattle University, is manning the nets for the Gunners. At 0-2-2, the Gunners are looking to find win number one after very close games so far. Kitsap scored in the 90th minute to seal a 1-0 win versus the Gunners this past week so the NW Division in the PDL is again showing its parity and strength after sending yet another team to the national championship game in 2014.

The Sounders U23 team is coming off a victory against a Lane United team still looking to post 3 points in a game in 2015. Joey Gjertsen scored his second goal of the 2015 season through a penalty kick late in the game after getting fouled in the box and Matt Bersano being sent off for Lane United. Guillermo Delgado was dangerous throughout the game forcing Bersano to make saves and the steady play of Jonathan Campbell and the Sounders U23 back line solidified the win.

The Gunners and the Sounders U23 squad split the games played in 2014 with Puget Sound winning the first contest and the Sounders U23 coming back to take the points in July of 2014. The game this Friday is setting up to be a close game as is all competition in the PDL NW Division.

Tickets and the complete schedule are available at Players interested in working with Sounders U23 staff and players can also sign up for the Pre-Match Clinic at
