Reign FC’s Jess Fishlock is NWSL Player of the Week


SEATTLE (June 9, 2015) – Seattle Reign FC forward Jessica Fishlock has been voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 9 of the 2015 NWSL season.

Fishlock, 28, scored a goal and recorded an assist in Reign FC’s 3-0 win at home over Sky Blue FC on Saturday night at Moda Pitch and Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Wash. (Watch Highlights)

The Cardiff, UK native’s assist helped Reign FC take an early 1-0 lead over Sky Blue when Fishlock found teammateKeelin Winters who was able to find the back of the net in the 8th minute. Seattle controlled the game throughout the first half as Fishlock continued to put on a show.

The Wales national team star’s goal came in the 28th minute when Fishlock was able to connect with a cross from defender Stephanie Cox and head the ball past Sky Blue goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, giving Reign FC a two goal lead at halftime.


Fishlock is the fourth Reign FC player to be honored as the NWSL Player of the Week. She received the award in Week 2 of the 2013 NWSL season alongside teammate Megan Rapinoe who was named Player of the Week in Week 16. Former Seattle player Sydney Leroux was honored with the award in Week 4 and former NWSL playerNahomi Kawasumi received the award in Weeks 13 and 16 during the 2014 NWSL season.

Seattle Reign FC will return to action Sunday, June 21 at 1:00 p.m. PT against the Boston Breakers at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Boston.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
