Sounders U23 host Kitsap Pumas Friday night in Sumner

(Sounders U23 release) The Sounders U23 host the Kitsap Pumas, who made the PDL National Final in 2014 and currently sit in first place in the PDL Northwest Division, on Friday June 12 at Sunset Stadium in Sumner at 7:30 PM. The game pits the two teams that have yet to lose in the division but the game promises a hard battle with points hard to come by in the historically talented league.

Kitsap comes into the game with a 4-0 record playing games against Lane United, Calgary Foothills, Portland Timbers U23, and the Puget Sound Gunners. Kitsap came from behind to beat Calgary with Michael Chamberlain scoring 3 of his four goals on the year in the second half. Puget Sound and Kitsap were level until the 90th minute when Kitsap finished the game off again on a Chamberlain goal. The Pumas are lead by captain and 2014 All-League defender Kory Keitz and have brought on firepower in 2014 Toronto FC draft pick Mike Ramos and 2014 Puget Sound Gunner forward Ash Appollon. Goalkeeper Matt Grosey also returns after leading the Pumas to the Western Conference title in 2014.

The Sounders U23 team is finding their form after tying Calgary to start the season and taking 3 points from Lane United. In the third game of the year, the Sounders U23 unloaded on the Puget Sound Gunners with five goals in a 30 minute stretch of the first half. Guillermo Delgado and Brandt Bronico each tallied two goals and Florian Valot picked up the final goal for the Sounders U23 team before half time. Paul Christensen picked up the clean sheet on the night.

“Kitsap is a little different than most teams in our division as they go through a full pre-season, pay their players, and operate under a professional moniker. The games are always very physical and the Kitsap team is usually a little more polished in terms of their final product than the amateur teams coming into the first half of the season,” explained Sounders U23 Head Coach Darren Sawatzky, “These games are absolutely great for the players we bring in because it tests the players on many levels and helps to develop them further as they aspire to be professional players in the future. These types of games and environments are perfect for developing young players.”

The game against Kitsap will also serve as the Mount Rainer Football Club Night with the Sounders U23. MRFC will be honoring the life of Coach Darren Painter with activities and MRFC team involvement.

Kick-off is 7:30pm at Sunset Stadium in Sumner this Friday, June 12th. Tickets and Pre-Match Clinic registration can be found at
