Seattle Sounders 2 beat Los Angeles Galaxy 2 by a score of 1-0 on Thursday night June 11 at Starfire Stadium. Jeff Halstead shot the match and has a gallery of photos at Facebook.com/goalWA.
Galaxy II controlled the match throughout the first half, but S2 outshot its opponents 9-6. Twice, S2 forward Darwin Jones thought he was clear on goal, but was called offside. The half would end 0-0 without either goalkeeper being tested.
In the second half, S2 nearly took the lead in the 57th minute as midfielder Sérgio shot from just outside the 18-yard-box, however Galaxy II goalkeeper Clement Diop made a save to keep the match even.
In the 73rd minute, Andy Craven sent a through ball down the right side of the LA penalty area, where second-half substitute Sam Garza received it. Garza sent a low cross in front of goal into Kovar’s path, with the Sounders FC Homegrown Player finding the net for his first professional goal. Garza earned his second assist of the season with the strike.
