(Sounders U23 release) The Sounders U23 team bounced back from a close game this past week versus Kitsap to take three points on the road at Crossfire. The game was physical with the officials handing out yellow cards in both halves with flurries of action in front of both nets.

The game started with Crossfire putting pressure on the Sounders U23 back line forcing Paul Christensen to make an early save on a corner kick lobbed into the Sounders U23 box. Hamza Haddadi was busy on the night taking 3 shots on target in the first half for Crossfire. Jonathan Campbell and Matt Reinikka were solid again at the back for the Sounders U23 thwarting chances through the first half.

The game got chippy midway through the first half with Guillermo Delgado taken down in the box from behind by Michael Gallagher. Brandt Bronico calmly stepped up and slotted home the shot on Tyler Visten to put the Sounders U23 ahead 1-0.

As the half rolled on, the Sounders U23 began to take control of possession and the attempts at goal started to mount. Just before half time, the Sounders U23 won the second of two quick corner kicks. Chase Hanson rose above the Crossfire defenders to hammer home goal number two on an assist from Alex DeCarolis. The team went into half time with the score 2-0 Sounders U23.

The second half started physical again with Sounders U23 pressing forward in possession. Delgado again got behind the Crossfire defense and was taken down in the box for the second penalty of the day. Visten dove to his left to stop Delgado’s attempt and the score stayed at 2-0.

The Sounders U23 team brought on David Olsen and Joey Gjertsen with about 20 minutes remaining in the game and Olsen immediately rewarded the coach’s decision on the substitution. Olsen received a ball about 25 yards from goal, spun and hit a cracker to the far post ringing the bar and dropping into the side-netting. The score ended 3-0 for the Sounders U23 team.

With not a lot of time to rest, the Sounders U23 team heads to Oregon for a two game swing playing Lane United on Friday at Willamalane at 7:30pm and finishing the weekend at second place Portland Timbers U23 at 2pm Sunday at Mackenzie Stadium in Vancouver, Washington. The Sounders U23 next home game is June 26th at Tumwater High School at 7:30pm against the Portland Timbers U23. Tickets and the full schedule are available at
