Sounders U23 host Portland Timbers U23 in Tumwater in second meeting this week

The Sounders U23 hosts the Portland Timbers U23 this Friday, June 26th at Tumwater High School in Tumwater, Washington. The two teams met this past week in Vancouver, Washington in the first of two games this week between the MLS affiliates. The Timbers took the first meeting 1-0 despite the Sounders U23 outshooting the Timbers U23 16-10.

The Timbers U23 are currently in second place in the highly competitive NW Division in the Premier Development League (PDL) with a 5-1-2 record and 2 points behind division leaders, Kitsap Pumas. Ben White leads the Timbers U23 with 4 goals following by Foster Langsdorf with 2 goals and 1 assist.

The Sounders U23 come into the game Friday with a 4-2-1 record good for 3rd place currently in the division and looking for points this weekend against teams they are fighting with for playoff contention. The Sounders U23 sit 4 points behind Portland and 6 points behind Kitsap with a game in hand. After playing Portland on Friday night, the Sounders U23 will play Calgary in Calgary in a quick turnaround. Calgary sits in 4th place in the division 4 points behind the Sounders U23 having played one more game.

The Sounders U23 are lead by Brandt Bronico and Guillermo Delgado, each with three goals in league play. Florian Valot has scored twice so far and looked sharp in the past few games. Paul Christensen has had the lion’s share of goalkeeping duties with a staunch Sounders U23 defense giving up only 4 goals total on the season.
