11 home games on tap for WWU Men in 2015

WWU_Vikings(190)BELLINGHAM, Wash. — (school release) Aiming for the school’s first NCAA Division II national playoff appearance in men’s soccer, Western Washington University will play 11 home games, two of them exhibitions, during the 2015 season at Robert S. Harrington Field on the WWU campus. Making that announcement was WWU head coach Greg Brisbon.

The Vikings narrowly missed out on a berth in the West Regional last fall, finishing 9-8-1 after winning seven of their last 10 games. They placed fourth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at 7-6-1.

Following home exhibitions against British Columbia on Aug. 25 (4 p.m.) and Whitworth on Aug. 29 (7 p.m.), WWU opens its regular season with two appearances at Harrington Field, meeting defending regional champion Cal State L.A. on Sept. 3 (4 p.m.) and UC San Diego on Sept. 5 (1 p.m.).

The Vikings play seven more home games, all of them GNAC contests. They meet Simon Fraser on Sept. 19 (7 p.m.), defending conference champion Seattle Pacific on Oct. 1 (7 p.m.), Saint Martin’s on Oct. 3 (7 p.m.), Concordia (Ore.) on Oct. 8 (4 p.m.), Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 10 (7 p.m.), U-Mary (ND) on Oct. 22 (4 p.m.), and Montana State Billings on Oct. 24 (7 p.m.).

WWU makes nine road appearances, traveling to Cal State East Bay on Sept. 11 (7 p.m.), Notre Dame de Namur on Sept. 13 (2 p.m.), Montana State Billings on Sept. 24 (1:30 p.m.), U-Mary on Sept. 26 (8 p.m.), Saint Martin’s on Oct. 15 (3:30 p.m.), Seattle Pacific on Oct. 17 (7 p.m.), Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 29 (4 p.m.), Concordia (Ore.) on Oct. 31 (1 p.m.) and Simon Fraser on Nov. 7 (7:30 p.m.).

Brisbon, who has seven starters and 14 letter winners back, has posted a 20-12-4 record in his first two seasons directing the Vikings after being an assistant for 12 years, eight as associate head coach.
