UPDATE! Saturday’s semifinals have been postponed due to lightning. South Sound will play at 7 AM (EST) on Sunday July 19 in the semis against Rosedale Super Eagles. If they win that one they advance to the Final to be played at 12 noon (EST).
It was a great day for South Sound FC’s U23 team, enhanced by two stars from fellow Evergreen Premier League teams. The Shock are in Virginia Beach, VA for the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) U23 National Championships. The club from Tacoma won two matches and was awarded a forfeit win for their first Saturday match, earning them first place in their pool and a spot in the semifinals to be played at 3 PM PST.
South Sound / EPLWA 3-1 Brooklyn United
South Sound / EPLWA beat Brooklyn United 3-1 in their first match. Scotty Hanson scored just seven minutes in on an assist from Vancouver Victory FC’s Timur Zhividze (loaned to the Shock for the tournament.) It was 2-0 in the 33rd when Tyler John scored for South Sound off of a corner kick sent in by JJ Schmeck. In the 55th Zhividze scored a goal of his own to make it 3-0. Brooklyn got a crazy deflection goal later on, but South Sound held for the win.
South Sound / EPLWA 6-1 Jersey Knights
Six hours later the Northwest team was back at it again. This time Wenatchee FC star Eleazar Galvan played a big role in a 6-1 spanking of the Jersey Knights. It was an early explosion that lifted South Sound. Four minutes in Isidro Prado-Heurta got the first of his two goals. Just a few minutes later he scored again on an assist from Max Harvey. It was already 2-0 Shock. Then Wenatchee FC’s Eleazar Galvan scored a nice free kick right after, and it was 3-0. At fourteen minutes Galvan assisted as Tyler John made it 4-0. It was 5-0 in the 28th minute after Galvan again assisted as Brandon Madsen headed home a cross.The Knights got one back in the 81st before Sam Zisette made it 6-1 Shock on an assist from Marcus Wilson. After the win South Sound was also awarded a 3-0 forfeit victory for their first scheduled Saturday match. Maricopa FC did not show up for the tournament and all of their opponents were given wins.

The forfeit win comes at a good time for South Sound. It gives them the morning off to rest up for the semifinals. The Shock will play the Rosedale Super Eagles at 3 PM PST. SOuth Sound as the #1 seed in the semifinals, while Rosedale finished second in Pool B.
