Bellingham United 0-2 Spokane Shadow

BELLINGHAM, WA—The Spokane Shadow, 10-1-2, clinched a repeat of the Evergreen Premier League title in Bellingham on Sunday with a 2-0 win. The Shadow will celebrate the championship next Saturday in Spokane when it plays Olympic Force in the season finale at Spokane Falls CC. Kickoff at 7:00.

The victory also completed the team’s second consecutive campaign without suffering a defeat on the road, going 6-0-1 away from home again. The team is a combined 20-3-4 over two years in the league.

The Shadow took the lead in the 24th when Conner Bevans drove into the right side of the area and was dragged down in the box. Nick Hamer converted the penalty.

The hosts had their first good look four minutes later but saw it deflect high. Six minutes into the second half they nearly tied it up on a corner, but Tony Watters punched the ball over the bar.

Seven minutes later the Shadow added some insurance when Colin Shockman deftly slipped the ball inside to Adam Talley, who was all alone behind the defense on a diagonal run. He rounded the goalkeeper and finishes into the empty net from 17 yards. Shockman, usually a defender, was playing up in the attack after moments earlier switched positions with fellow defender Brady Ulen, who started the half up top.

Scoring:
Spo: Nick Hamer (penalty) 24
Spo: Adam Talley (Colin Shockman) 58

Olympic Force 1-0 Seattle Stars FC

The Olympic Force (6-7-0, 18 points) are having a great second half to their debut season in the EPLWA. The club has moved from 7th all the way up to 4th place after their latest win, a 1-0 conquest of Seattle (3-7-3, 13 points) at broiling-hot Gordon Field in Bremerton on Sunday.

The Force outshot the Stars 15-3 but Seattle goalkeeper Scott Barnum kept the Stars in the contest with several crucial saves. Finally in the 90th minute of the match Olympic broke through when Kyle Schoales found Rene Caro who put one in for the home side’s victory. It was Caro’s first goal for the Force.

Guillerme Atanes recorded his second straight shutout for Olympic, who have now won three matches in a row.
