Reign host Boston tonight looking for second straight top of table finish

reignfc-croppedSEATTLE (August 25, 2015) — Seattle Reign FC (11-3-3, 36 pts) will look to clinch the NWSL Shield for the second consecutive season on Wednesday, August 26 in a matchup with the Boston Breakers (4-11-4, 15 pts). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT at on the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium, with a live, high-definition webstream available atYouTube.com/NWSL.

Reign FC is coming off a 3-0 shutout against the Houston Dash on Friday, as midfielder Kim Little netted her first NWSL career hat trick, who was named NWSL Player of the Week for her efforts.

Little opened the scoring in the 42nd minute following a ball played over the top by defender Lauren Barnes. The midfielder accelerated past the Dash backline and calmly carried the ball into the 18-yard box before sending her shot over goalkeeper Erin McLeod.

The Scottish international doubled the visitors lead in the 73rd minute after gathering a pass at the top of the 18-yard box, cutting to the outside before sending her shot across goal and into the net. In the final minute of regulation, Little collected the ball just inside the 18-yard box before turning past four Dash players and sending her shot over McLeod to complete her hat-trick and solidify Reign FC’s 3-0 victory.

Little is now tied with forward Beverly Yanez for team leading scorer at nine goals, second overall on the league leaderboard.

With Friday’s win, Reign FC remains atop the NWSL standings with 36 points, seven points ahead of the Chicago Red Stars, with three regular season matches left to play. A win on Wednesday would earn Reign FC the NWSL Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular season record, for the second consecutive year.

Boston is coming off a 3-0 defeat at the hands of FC Kansas City last Saturday. The Breakers have lost eight of their last 10 matches, and are the only only team in the NWSL this season not to have won away from home.

The Breakers are led by midfielder Kristie Mewis, and forwards Morgan Marlborough and Stephanie McCaffrey. Mewis leads the team with six goals while forwards Stephanie McCaffrey and Morgan Marlborough have three.

The game Wednesday is the third and final match up between Seattle and Boston this season. Reign FC won the first two meetings on the road by one-goal – with midfielder Jess Fishlock notching the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victoryJune 21 and Little recording one of her four game-winners this season in a 2-1 triumph August 1.

Reign FC has clinched a home semi-final match that will take place on Sunday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. PT. Fans attending Wednesday’s match against the Boston Breakers will have an exclusive opportunity to purchase semi-final tickets at the Reign FC ticketing tent located on the concourse inside Memorial Stadium.
