Yakima soccer complex breaks ground

YAKIMA, WA— The Soccer Community in greater Yakima has reason to celebrate as ground was recently broken on a new, giant outdoor / indoor soccer complex. In their headline, the Yakima Herald called it “an emotional day.” (Lots of photos.)

Gold-plated shovels hit the dirt (video) as hundreds of local youth soccer players and others from the community cheered (video)  the start of a construction process that is expected to be completed some time in 2017.

Meanwhile, The Herald ran articles on the facility being a game-changer for the city and the high expectations of ecomonic benefits from the new public-private non-profit venture.

The newspaper also ran this “open mike” video on the project.

The start of the Sozo project has put a hold on a similar soccer complex idea at nearby Union Gap.
