(SU release) Seattle University men’s soccer’s Kyle Bjornethun (Snohomish, Wash.) has been named both the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week as well as College Soccer News National Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27, 2015.
The junior defender netted both the equalizer and the game-winner in the final 1:36 as the Redhawks earned their second consecutive 2-1 win over a ranked team at No. 13 Oregon State on Sunday. He played all 180 minutes in defense over the weekend as Seattle U also defeated No. 10 Washington at home on Thursday, holding the Huskies to only a penalty kick goal.
UNLV’s Jason Khamvongsa was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to a 1-0 shutout over Gonzaga, the team’s sixth straight win.
The Redhawks remain home to open their conference schedule this weekend, hosting UMKC on Friday, Oct. 2 and Air Force on Sunday, Oct. 4. Sunday’s match will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network, which can be viewed for free online, iPhone, or tablet, while Friday’s match will be streamed on GoSeattleU.com.
