Neither team created much in the first half as only 3 shots combined were on goal. Caty Miller’s goal 9 minutes into the second half forced a more open game. Miller was the first to the ball after a Phin free kick and slotted her goal past the Whatcom goalkeeper.

More open play meant more action for each goalkeeper. Shoreline’s Amanda Aversano was forced into 5 saves to protect the Phin lead throughout the second half. Shoreline held onto their one goal lead to come away with the important 3 points.

With the win, and Edmonds’ loss to Peninsula, the Phins take sole possession of 3rd place exactly one- third of the way through region play. Next up the Phins host NWAC #1 Peninsula College at 12:15pm on Wednesday, September 30th.
