After a shut-out performance with 19 saves over North Idaho College, Trinity Lutheran College’s (Trinity) Colby Smits earned a nomination and was a finalist for the NAIA’S Women’s Soccer Player of of the Week. This weekly award is given at a national level to the country’s top performers in their respective sports. Smits’ nomination was the first for the women’s soccer program at Trinity.
“The nomination gives us a higher image in the recruiting community. It shows that our program and our players can compete at the highest level” said Head Coach Tim Colvin. He went on to say, “Colby has been making great strides in improving her in-game management and consistency in play. When she plays games like she did against North Idaho, she demonstrates her value to our program,” said Head Coach Tim Colvin.
Since arriving at Trinity Lutheran College from Spokane, Smits has been a valuable asset for the Trinity women’s soccer team with her goalkeeping abilities. In this season alone, Smits has two shutouts, 41 saves and an impressive 1.69 Goals Against Average.
