Kitsap Pumas sign Liviu Bird as goalkeeper coach

Pumas_logoBREMERTON, WA — (club release) The Kitsap Pumas today announced the addition of Liviu Bird as the club’s goalkeeper coach for the first team. Bird trained with the Pumas as a collegiate player in 2009 and 2010 before signing a professional contract in 2012.

Bird, 25, enters his first season as part of the Pumas coaching staff, having previously coached in the same capacity with Edmonds Community College in 2012 before spending a year as the interim head coach of Trinity Lutheran College. He has also coached with Emerald City FC and Bainbridge Island FC on the youth side.

“We are pleased to add Liviu to our coaching staff,” Pumas head coach Cameron MacDonald said. “His previous experience with this club and at the collegiate level couple with his knowledge of the position will be important for our group of goalkeepers moving forward.”

“I’m excited to return to the club that gave me my first and only shot at the professional level,” said Bird, who is a contributor to Sports Illustrated’s soccer coverage. “When I played here, our goalkeeper coach James Ritchie was a big source of inspiration for me. My goal will be to make a similar impact on the Pumas players that I coach.”
