Third-Ranked Whitworth Turns Away Whitman, 2-0

PiratesFlagSPOKANE, WA – (WhitworthPirates.com) Karl Muelheims gave Whitworth an early lead and Rylan Berriman added a second-half goal as third-ranked Whitworth earned a 2-0 victory over visiting Whitman on Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

Whitworth (10-0-1, 6-0-1) recorded its eighth shutout of the season against Whitman (1-8-1, 1-5-1).

Muelheims netted his conference-leading ninth goal of the season in the 10th minute, maintaining possession as he fought past a slew of defenders in a crowded box to score from five yards away to the lower-left corner of the goal.

Whitworth doubled its lead in the 71st minute when Spencer Wolfe sent a long, high-arcing through-ball pass from the midfield up to a streaking Berriman, who found himself in a one-on-one situation with the Whitman goalkeeper. He finished to the left corner of the net from roughly 10 yards away for his second goal of the season.
