FOLLOW-UP: In a September 22, 2015 goalWA.net Social Buzz post we featured the (Facebook group page) ongoing treatment of soccer player Sergio Martinez who is battling Leukemia. Now we can share that his community is planning a soccer charity event for this Sunday in Shoreline see below!

From George Dremousis, Sergio’s former soccer coach at both Shoreline and Trinity Lutheran / Everett: Here is information about our charity matches set for this Sunday, October 18th from 10 AM-2 PM at Shoreline College to benefit Sergio “Pino” Martinez as he continues his brave fight against cancer.

Sergio played for me at Trinity Lutheran College for two seasons and graduated as the all time leader in goals, assists and minutes/games played. I hired him to coach with me at Mountlake Terrace and when I returned to Shoreline this year. He is an outstanding young man, tremendous player and a great coach. Everyone who has ever met or played with “Pino,” as he is called by those who know him, speaks highly of him and he is universally liked as teammate and coach.

Our charity event Sunday will match many of Pino’s former teams against each other in an effort to raise both money and awareness to fight leukemia.

At 10 AM, his OSA Seattle semi-pro team will face off against a group of Trinity Alumni featuring several players who are returning from Cal and Mexico where they are now playing professionally themselves.

At 11 AM, AFS United, a team of coaches who have worked with Pino and play indoor with him, take on a team of from Trinity Lutheran College

At 11:45, OSA plays Trinity and then at 12:40, AFS United plays the Trinity Alum. All matches are 40 minutes and the teams with the most points/goal diff after two matches will play in the final for the “Pino Cup” at 1 PM.

Suggested donations of $5 will be accepted at the gate, kids under 12 get in for free and the first 100 paid guests get a free Dicks cheeseburger. Food will also be available on site and parking is free.
