WENATCHEE, WA— The Wenatchee Fire have withdrawn from the 2015-16 Western Indoor Soccer League season. The WISL is now developing a schedule based on 7 clubs with hopes of releasing the fixture list next week.
Until Wednesday there was hope that the Fire would continue their string of seasons that dates back to 2005. “They were not able to secure the sponsor they were looking to help fund the season. They are asking that we hold an opportunity for them next season and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused anyone,” says WISL Commissioner John Crouch.
The loss of Wenatchee means the 7 WISL clubs will be balancing the 2015-16 schedule with off weeks and / or weeks with two matches. Bellingham United, Olympic Force, Oly Town Artesians, Snohomish Skyhawks, Sporting Everett FC, Tacoma Stars Reserves, and Vancouver Victory will kick off the second WISL campaign in late November.
On October 31 many of the WISL clubs will participate in the second annual Northwest Soccer Invitational from noon to 8 PM at the Bellingham Sportsplex where shortened matches will help clubs warm up for the season.
