NU Eagles continue to soar in Kirkland, top Beacons

KIRKLAND, WA – (NUEagles.com) The NU Eagles scored in each half to shut out the Northwest Christian Beacons  2:0, in CCC play Tuesday afternoon October 15. Dale Garvey was at the match and shares photos with goalWA.net.

DJ Bechtel scored in the 19th minute as he deflected Nathan Furtado’s shot into the goal from 6 yards out. Furtado had gathered Edgar Esquivel’s corner, shot from 18 yards out on the right side and Bechtel was in the right place at the right time to deflect the ball passed the NCU goalkeeper.

Taylor Turner scored at the 85:51 mark when his volley hit the post and went into the net behind Max Torres, NCU keeper.

Joe Galbraith earns the shutout in goal for Northwest U. (8-4, 6-2 CCC) finishing with 2 saves while Max Torres took the loss in goal for Northwest Christian (0-12, 0-8 CCC) as he grabbed 6 saves for the day. Northwest held the edge in shots with a 20-6 margin.

“Great to get another win today,” commented Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. “The team did a good job of creating opportunities on goal today but we just struggled to put them away. Our defense did a great job today keeping them from scoring and getting the shutout.”

Northwest will travel to Portland on Saturday for a key match-up with Concordia as the two teams are currently tied for second in the CCC with identical 6-2 league records. Northwest Christian will host Corban in Springfield on Saturday.
