Seattle United enjoyed a string of successes at this year’s Washington Youth Soccer Founders Cup. The club put five teams into the finals, eventually taking home four titles.

From SeattleUnited.com/Kevin Long:

On Championship Sunday (February 12), Dustin Short’s West B99 Blue team got things off to rollicking start by winning the Boys 99 title. Like many finals matches Sunday, extra time was needed to separate the teams. When no winner was produced, the game went to the penalty spot, where West B99 Blue prevailed over a tough Synergy squad.

Andrew Kreiter’s South B98 Blue was matched against Dragons FC, who took a 2-0 lead into halftime of the U13 title game. South B98 Blue stormed back to tie the game as regular time wound down, which required two overtime periods, after which the teams still remained deadlocked. Kicks from the penalty spot followed, where South B98 Blue, with several fantastic saves from its keeper, prevailed to take the title.

Up next was South B00 Black, coached by Eric Cobb and Mike Layton. In the title game, B00 Black faced a strong and high scoring opponent in Nortac (North Tacoma) Colibri. B00 Black took a 3-1 lead shortly into the second half, but before long Nortac scored to reduce the lead to a one-goal margin. B00 Black stayed composed in defense, with its keeper making several game-saving stops, and held on to take the title in a very exciting and well played final.

The South B97 Blue team, also coached by Andrew Kreiter, matched up against a strong Mercer Island squad. After exchanging goals in regulation, these teams went into overtime, where B97 Blue produced a magical and championship winning goal off a long cross that was headed smartly in the back of the net. Congratulations to Coach Kreiter on leading both of his teams to WYS state championships!

Both West G96 Blue, coached by Chalise Baysa, and South B95 Blue, coached by Carlos Enriquez, took teams all the way to championship matches, but ultimately came up just short. Congratulations to both of these teams and their coaches on their fine effort and for becoming 2012 WYS Founders Cup finalists.
