SeaWolves get first local win since 2011, jump into Ruffneck Cup race

REDMOND, WA— Tuesday June 21, 2011. That was the last time the North Sound SeaWolves won a match against another Puget Sound PDL side. On that night at the Stadium Bowl they topped Tacoma Tide FC 3:1. The Tide have gone on to become the Sounders U-23’s and the SeaWolves went on to be winless for eleven straight matches against locals. Last year the Ruffneck Cup debuted and the SeaWolves didn’t get a “W.”

That’s all over now after Brady Ballew scored in the 12th minute on an assist from Daniel Gavin and North Sound held of Washington Crossfire for a tight 1:0 win on Monday June 17, 2013 at Redmond High School. Welcome to the Ruffneck Cup, Seawolves.

Referee Alex Willse issued seven yellow cards in the match. Meanwhile Ryan Herman kept Crossfire off the scoreboard with five saves. See the box score here.

It was only the second Ruffneck Cup match this year for North Sound (see remaining schedule.) These derby matches have been very tight as the goal differentials in the table above show. The Sounders U-23 have played three matches and have seven points. The U-23’s have been at home so far but now their last three Ruffneck Cup contests will all be away. The Kitsap Pumas have played two Cup matches, both away, and have four points. North Sound have now played two matches, and have two home and two away left to play. Washington Crossfire is half-way through their Cup schedule and have suffered three straight heart-breaking 1:0 losses.
