su23clearSUMNER, WA – The Sounders U-23 have signed Mohammed “Mo” Dumbuya and Luis DeLaVega for the 2014 Premier Development League season. Dumbuya comes to the Sounders U-23 from Bethel University of the Southern States Athletic Conference, while DeLaVega brings prior PDL experience from his time with the Laredo Heat.

“One of the most important parts of player development is finding different types of players and allowing them to showcase what makes the different as they develop,” Sounders U-23 Head Coach & GM, Darren Sawatzky said. “Mo represents a crafty striker with the ability to score through unorthodox methods.  Luis is a clever central midfield player with unique attributes that you don’t always have in your team.  We look forward to both of them having an impact with the style we play.”

The 5-foot-9-inch Dumbuya was named to the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer All-America Second Team playing forward for his Bethel Wildcats. The Gambian born attacker will join the Sounders U-23 this summer for the first time.

“My expectations for this summer are to perform at a high level and compete to win every single game,” Dumbuya said. “I expect my style of play to help contribute to our team’s success through hard work and dedication.”

Though DeLaVega is also a Sounders U-23 newcomer this season, he is no stranger to the level of play in the PDL. In the Mexican‘s two seasons with the Laredo Heat of the PDL’s Southern Conference Mid-South Division, the midfielder played in 24 games with a goal and two assists. His understanding of what it takes to be successful at the PDL level will be a valuable asset for the Sounders U-23.

“Being a box-to-box player, when attacking I will move the ball around, creating opportunities for our forwards and midfielders, and on the defensive side helping to recover balls and cutting opponents’ attacks,” DeLaVega said.

The Sounders U-23 will open their 2014 season campaign this Friday, May 16th at Lane United FC in Eugene, Oregon. Then they will return home to Sunset Stadium in Sumner for a meeting with the Puget Sound Gunners on Sunday, May 25th at 2:00 p.m. For single match tickets, and information about our season ticket flex-pack, visit SoundersU23.com.
